Kathmandu, the largest city of Nepal is the political, commercial and cultural hub of Nepal which is the first stop for majority of tourists visiting Nepal. The valley was a big lake once upon a time and is believed to have created by the divine sword of the Buddhist deity Manjushree which is situated at an altitude of 1335 meters above sea level. The valley is full of medieval towns, age old temples and terraced fields that showcase the history, tradition and lifestyle of the people. In the late 18th century, following the foundation of modern Nepal that we have today, Kathmandu was made the capital of the country.
The valley contains three fabled cities - Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur which were separate kingdoms and ruled by different kings for many centuries.
